Garda Officers Facing Disciplinary Over Cancelled Penalty Points
A number of garda officers are to face disciplinary action following the publication of a report in to the recent penalty points controversy.
The report was commissioned after it was uncovered a number of garda officers had cancelled the penalty points issued to a large number of people for driving offences.
According to RTE, Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan confirmed that disciplinary action was now underway against a number of officers.
It follows comments from minister for transport leo Varadker, who said that the issue should now be investigated by Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission.
Commissioner Callinan pointed out that the report has already been referred to the Garda Inspectorate and the Oireachtas Justice Committee, RTE reported.
