Sinn Féin's Table Property Tax Repeal Bill To Be Debated

The Dáil is to debate a proposed Property Tax Repeal Bill, put forward by Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty.

The party's finance spokesperson said: “The property tax is another austerity tax and will only further pressurise those in mortgage arrears. It reduces disposable incomes and has a negative effect on consumer spending and, in turn, jobs.

The proposed bill will be debated on Tuesday night during the party's private members time, and Doherty is hopeful of finding support amongst other TDs.

“Our bill would repeal the tax and refund anybody who paid it this year. We have shown there are alternatives and that the government has a choice. We are asking the general public to lobby their TDs to support this bill.”
