Six ISPs Ordered To Block Access To File-Sharing Site

A court order now requires six internet service providers (ISPs) in to block access to Pirate Bay, a file-sharing website reportedly used by some 200,000 people in Ireland.

The court action was brought by EMI, Sony, Warner Music and Universal who claimed that annual loses of some €20 million can be attributed to various Pirate Bay websites.

The companies sought orders against UPC, Vodafone, Digiweb, Hutchinson 3G Ltd and Telefonica O2 Ireland Ltd.

The ISPs will now be required to block access to Pirate Bay and connected sites within 30 days.

People Jump From Burning Building In Cork
Three people are recovering after they were forced to jump from the top of a burning building in Cork city in the early hours of this morning. The blaze erupted in a three-storey apartment block beside the Franciscan Well on the North Mall at around 12.30am. Four people were rushed to Cork University Hospital, one of whom is in a serious condition.

Internet Provider Agrees Garda Deal To Block Web Access
Internet provider UPC has agreed to block access to sites known to contain images of child sexual abuse, in a new partnership announced with An Garda Síochána. It is understood that the internet service, which has almost 400,000 customers, will use a continually updated list of sites produced by Garda and Interpol.

Residents Block Access To Estate In Water Meter Protest
A protest is underway at the Woodgrove estate in Portlaoise as Irish Water workers attempt to fit water meters in the area. It is understood that a number of residents have blocked access to the estate at Ballfin Road, in a follow up to a protest that began on Wednesday evening.

Rabbitte Willing To Examine UK Online Pornography Ban
Following the announcement that the UK government is to introduce legislation to make internet service providers (ISPs) block access to pornography, Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte is said to be considering similar action.

Railtours Ireland Launches Dublin Bay Hopper Tour
Sean Kenny, the Dublin Labour TD and member of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport has welcomed the new Dublin Bay Hopper tour, operated by Railtours Ireland. Mr Kenny said: "The Dublin Bay Hopper is a privately operated tour by private company Railtours Ireland, who charter a Dart from Irish Rail to operate the service.
