World Leaders Summit Gets Underway In Co Fermanagh

The G8 summit, involving eight of the worlds most powerful political leaders, has gotten underway at Lough Erne, Co Fermanagh.

Leaders from the United States, Russsia, Japan, Germany, Italy, Canada and Britain have arrived for the two-day event, which is hosted by British Prime Minister David Cameron.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny, as current president of the EU, will attend the gathering for a short time on this afternoon (Monday).

Events in Syria are expected to be at the top of the agenda, but a planned EU/US trade agreement will also be discussed when Kenny meets with members from Germany, Briton, Italy and Franc and President Obama at around 3pm.

Ireland To Return To Bond Markets By 2013 – Kenny
The Taoiseach has said he hopes Ireland can return to the bond markets in late 2012, during his trip to Germany on Wednesday. Speaking at a press conference after meeting German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Enda Kenny said the Government was determined to continue with reforms and that rumored changes to EU treaties would be "very challenging".

TV3 Leader's Debate Planned
Ireland's political leaders have agreed to the first television debate of the election campaign at TV3 next Tuesday, although a question mark still remains over the inclusion of Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny. RTÉ will no longer be the platform for the debates as a dispute over their format continues.
