First Cross-Border Bridge 'On Hold'

The "substantial underestimation" of costs has lead to the plans for the first cross-border bridge to be shelved.

The bridge, proposed to be built near Omeath in Co Louth and reaching over to Warrenpoint in Co Down, was originally estimated to cost around €17.4 million.

However, following the tenders process, which estimated the cost at between €25 and €40 million, Louth Co Council have shelved the plans.

It is understood that the project is on hold while the council look at other possible way to fund the bridge.
