Man Arrested In Connection With Deaths Of Elderly Brothers

A man has been arrested in connection with the discovery of the bodies of two elderly brothers at their home in Castlebar on Wednesday.

A home-help for the brothers alerted gardai at around 07:00 after she arrived at their home and found their bodies.

It is believed that the men may have been beaten to death, gardai are treating the deaths as suspicious.

It is understood that a man has been arrested in connection with the men's deaths and is being held at Castlebar Garda Station.

The investigation is ongoing.

Work-Related Deaths Gravely Underestimated
One of Ireland's largest trade unions has said that the actual number of work-related deaths in Ireland is more than 23 times the official figure. According to Siptu, 1,400 people died every year as a result of accidents, illnesses and diseases linked to their employment, as opposed to official statistics of around 60.

Birth Rate Up In First 3 Months Of 2008
There was almost a 10% jump in the number of babies born in Ireland during the first three months of this year, compared to 2007. Figures released by the Central Statistics Office report 19,000 births during January, February and March.
