Doctors Launch Campaign Over Long Working Hours
A campaign has been launched by non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs) to reduce working hours, which they claim are "dangerously long".
The campaign, called '24 No More – Enough is Enough', hopes to tackle the long work hours of NCHDs, and is reportedly supported by some 2,000 Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) doctors.
The IMO claim that the working hours of these doctors is seeing many young NCHDs leaving to work elsewhere, which in turn, will lead to a recruitment crisis in some hospitals.
The IMO doctors will be balloted next month over possible industrial action, which they say will be used as a last resort.
