High Court Appoint Homebase Examiner

An examiner has been appoint to Homebase Ireland by the High Court, as the DIY chain announces it is considering closing three stores.

Currently, the chain has 15 stores and employes 558 people, with 17 full-time and 79 part-time staff employed in the three stores slated for closure.

The stores considered for closure are in Dublin, Carlow and Castlebar.

They have not recorded a profit in the last five years, with sales falling 31% since 2009.

The company hopes to renegotiate lease terms on the 12 other stores it hopes to keep open.

Homebase have stressed that they will continue to trade as normal throughout the examinership, with all customer orders, pre-payments, credit notes and gift vouchers being fully honoured.
