Waterford Crystal Take Dispute To Dáil
Former Waterford Crystal employees will hold a protest today outside the Dáil in a dispute over compensation for lost pensions.
It follows a European Court of Justice ruling in April that said the State had an obligation to protect the pension of workers in the event of a company becoming insolvent.
The government however referred the case to the High Court.
Sinn Féin spokesperson on Workers’ Rights, Senator David Cullinane referred to the need for workers to campaign and protest outside Dáil Éireann to get what they are legally entitled to as disgraceful.
Senator Cullinane said: "Why the government is dragging its feet on this issue is simply beyond me.
"This is a clear-cut case and there is no reason why the government should not immediately meet with the workers and ensure speedy compensations for all those concerned.
"The implications of the European Court of Justice Judgement are clear."
