January 2015 Set As Date For First Water Bills

The first bills for water are to be sent out in January 2015, the Department of the Environment has announced.

It is understood that the date has been agreed following an agreement with the Troika.

Meanwhile, Irish Water are to establish eight new regional offices, which will employ up to 220 people.

The new offices will be based in Castlebar, Co Mayo; Cavan town; Donegal town; Dublin, Kilkenny and Limerick cities; Mallow, Co Cork; and in Mullingar, Co Westmeath.

Each office will need staff of between 18 and 32, with the roles expected to filled by a mix of current staff reassignments from Bord Gáis, local authorities and the Department of Environment alongside open public recruitment.
