No Pollution Risk From Stricken Tall Ship
There is no risk of pollution from the abandoned tall ship, the Astrid, which crashed into rocks off the coast of Kinsale on Wednesday afternoon, the Irish Coast Guard has said.
30 members of the ships crew were rescued after string winds blow blew the Dutch-registered training vessel onto rocks and it began to take on water.
Hugh Barry, the Irish Coast Guard's pollution and salvage officer, told RTÉs Morning Ireland programme that there was pollution danger from the vessel and that currently the ships hull has remained in its current position.
It is understood that any diesel left on the vessel is expected to break up and disperse in the current rough weather and seas.
The ship's owners will now be expected to outline a plan for the recovery of the vessel.
