An Bord Pleanala Refuse Permission For 'Industrial Scale' Wind Farm

Planning permission for an "industrial scale" wind farm off the coast of Clare has been refused by An Bord Pleanala.

The €200m 45-turbine wind farm had been proposed by West Coastal Windpower Ltd.

However, the plans were thrown out on a number of grounds including critically endangering freshwater pearl mussel. Due to the decision, some 79 landowners will lose out on dividend payments through land leases with the energy company.
