Board Member Says Hospital Cannot Comply With Abortion Bill
A board member at the Mater Hospital in Dublin has claimed that the hospital will not be able to comply with the new abortion legislation.
Speaking to the Irish Times, board member Fr Kevin Doran, said that the ethos of the Catholic volunteer hospital prevented it carrying the actions required by the new Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill 2013.
According to the paper the board of the hospital will be meeting "within weeks" to discuss its approach to the legislation.
Critic's have warned of the possible consequences if the hospital was to refuse to carry out abortions to save women's lives.

Speaking after SDLP leader Margaret Ritchie claimed that MI5 should hand over dissident republican intelligence to the PSNI as it had failed to prevent terror attacks across NI.

A Policing Board member in the North has responded to claims the PSNI shot baton rounds "indiscriminately" during riots in Ardoyne in north Belfast last month. The mother of one 13-year-old boy, who was struck by a plastic bullet, questioned the police's handling of the situation in yesterday's Irish News.

Fr Doran Resigns From Mater Hospital Board
Following confirmation that the Mater Hospital in Dublin would abide by the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill, Fr Kevin Doran has resigned from the hospital's Board of Governors and the Board of Directors. Fr Doran had previously said that as a Catholic hospital, the Mater could not comply with the new law as it against its ethos.
