Green Light Given To New Dublin 'Quiet Areas'

A number of parks in Dublin are to be declared "quiet areas", where the level of noise must be kept below defined levels both day and night.

Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan gave Dublin City Council the go -ahead to declare seven parks and one beach as the new quiet areas. Within these areas day time noise must be kept below 55 decibels. It is also being consider that a 45 decibel maximum level could be set for night time.

The new rules will also see a restriction on construction activity, including road, rail and air traffic, within the vicinity of the quiet areas.

Two city centre parks are among the new quiet areas - Blessington Basin, at the top of Blessington Street in the north inner city, and the Cabbage Gardens, just off Cathedral Lane, near Kevin Street in Dublin 2.

The others are Edenmore Park and St Anne's Park in Raheny, Mount Bernard Park between Phibsborough and Cabra, Palmerston Park in Dartry, Ranelagh Gardens and Dollymount Strand.

Blaze-Hit Dublin Port Tunnel Reopens
A fire in the Dublin Port Tunnel has forced the closure of the crucial tunnel in both directions early this morning. Although both lanes have since been reopened, traffic remains very heavy in the area and gardaí have appealed to motorists to use alternative routes.

US Architect Makes Dublin Bloom

New By-Laws Ban Swearing In Co Waterford Parks
New by-laws being introduced in Co Waterford will ban swearing, smoking and the use of e-cigarettes in parks and playgrounds. The new Parks, Playgrounds and Open Spaces By-Laws 2015 outlaws a number of acts in public places, with some carrying a fine of more than €1,200, as part of a clampdown on anti-social behaviour.
