Smuggled Cigarettes Uncovered At Dublin Airport

An estimated €30,000 worth of cigarettes and tobacco have seized at Dublin Airport.

On Tuesday, more than 20,400 cigarettes and some 57.50kg of tobacco was found in the luggage of a 40-year-old Danish man, arriving on a flight from Baghdad. The find represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €23,000.

The man was arrested in connection with the find.

It is understood that the cigarettes included the brands Marlboro, Gauloises, Aspen and Kents.

It is the 13th arrest at Dublin Airport this year in relation to cigarette and tobacco smuggling offences.

€3.1m Cigarettes Seized At Dublin Port
Customs officers at Dublin Port discovered eight million smuggled cigarettes, stored in boxes labelled “garlic and cheese tear and share”. The find was made by officers using a mobile scanner during a routine check of a refrigerated unit that had arrived at the port from Rotterdam.

Over 18,000 Cigarettes Seized At Dublin Airport
More than 18,000 cigarettes have been seized by revenue officers at Dublin Airport. The contraband 'NZ' cigarettes were discovered by a detector dog in the checked-in luggage of a 42-year-old Estonian man on Tuesday. The cigarettes have an estimated retail value of €9,700 and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of around €7,700.

Over 900,000 Cigarettes Seized In Three Customs Service Operations
Revenue's Customs Service have seized 900,000 cigarettes at Dublin Port as a result of routine profiling. On Wednesday, 12 October, the cigarettes were detected, with the help of detector dog Casey, in five pallets which were marked as 'catering equipment' and had arrived into Dublin from the Netherlands.
