Gardaí Appeal For Information Over Taxi Driver Assault

Gardaí in Dublin have appealed for information over the serious assault of taxi driver and the theft of his cab the city in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred on the N4.

The men, one aged 19 and the others believed to be in their 20s, flagged down the taxi in the early hours. They then pulled a knife on the driver and forced him to drive them to Tubber Lane in Lucan.

Once there the men assaulted the driver before driving away in his taxi.

The driver managed to raise the alarm and garda found the cab a short distance from the scene, on fire.

The driver is being treated at James Connelly Hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The scene of the assualt remains cordoned off pending a technical examination.

Gardaí have called for witnesses to contact them at Lucan garda station on 01 667300.

Taxi Drivers March On Transport Department
A group representing Ireland's private taxi drivers is to stage a protest in Dublin today, it has been revealed. An Garda Siochana said they understood a protest would take place by the group who are calling themselves “The Irish Taxi Council” this afternoon. According to Irishtaxi.
