Dún Laoghaire Floating Pool Put To Public Consultation

The proposed development of a new floating swimming pool and "urban beach" in Dún Laoghaire harbour has been put up for public consultation.

It is understood that planning applications for the €2.5 million proposal could be submitted by October, with Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company claiming that development could generate up to €1 million a year for the local economy and attract some 140,000 visitors.

The proposed development, understood to be inspired by the floating pool at Badeschiff in Berlin, would include a heated and treated seawater pool built on a converted barge within the harbour, alongside changing and toilet facilities.

The harbour company have said the facility could be operational by summer 2015, with entrance to use the pool costing the same as a cinema ticket.

The consultation will run until 27 September.
