Irishman Charged Over 2007 Australian Crash Deaths
A 31-year-old Irishman, extradited to Australia earlier this month, has pleaded guilty to the deaths of two Irish people, who died in a car crash almost six years ago.
Eamonn Driver, of Slane, Co Meath, was accused in connection with the deaths of Colm Reilly (20) and Kiara Duncan (22) in October 2007.
The crash happened in the Perth suburb of Bedford, when the car Mr Driver was driving crossed the centre divide, overturned and collided with an oncoming vehicle.
Reilly died in the crash, while Ms Duncan died three days later in hospital.
The 63-year-old driver of the other car escaped without serious injury.
At the time of the crash, Driver was treated for a shattered pelvis.
In November 2007, no charges had been made and Driver returned to Ireland.
However, in August 2009, Driver failed to appear at a Perth court to face charges over the death of Reilly and Duncan, leading to an arrest warrant being issued.
Minister for Justice Alan Shatter last month granted an extradition request made for Driver.
He will appear in court again on October 25.
