Irishman Secures Broadcasting Rights For World Cup Qualifier
An Irishman has bought the Australian television rights to a World Cup qualifying match between Ireland and Sweden.
38-year-old David Feeney, from Deansgrange in Dublin, but who has been living in Sydney for 16 years, is believed to have paid tens of thousands to buy the rights from a German company.
According to the Irish Independent, his first offer for the broadcasting rights was rejected, but after selling his house an increased offer was accepted.
The match, due to kick off at 4.45am local time, will now be shown in five cities across Australia and available to neighbouring islands on a pay-per-view basis.
Alongside the Ireland match, David secured the rights to broadcast an England qualifier against Ukraine.

There is still no deal in place to broadcast Wednesday's World Cup play-off between France and the Republic of Ireland to Irish viewers. The state channel, RTÉ remains locked in negotiations with the French Football Federation (FFF) but has yet to secure the television rights for the all-important second leg at the Stade de France.
