IMO Doctors Vote For Industrial Action

Junior doctors have overwhelmingly voted in favour of industrial action in a dispute with the HSE over working hours.

Half of the Irish Medical Organisation's 2,000 non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHD) voted in the ballot, with 97% voting in favour of some form of industrial action.

The doctors claim that they regularly work some 100 hours a week, despite an EU directive that states NCHD's should not work more than 48 hours a week.

The IMO doctors will now meet to discuss the exact nature of industrial action. Following this, the IMO will meet with the HSE to discuss contingency measures.

The IMO have stressed that emergency services will not be affected by any industrial action.
