Prison Vehicle Overturns On M6 Injuring Three

A prisoner and two prison guards are being treated in hospital after the van they were travelling in overturned on the M6 in CO Galway.

It is thought the Prison Service vehicle, a standard prisoner transfer vehicle, suffered a tyre blowout causing it to overturn between junctions 16 and 17.

The three injured are being treated at Galway University Hospital, their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The funeral of murdered prison officer David Black is due to take place today. The 52-year-old father of two was shot as he drove to his work at Maghaberry Prison. The shooting occurred on the M1 in County Armagh on Thursday. A private service is to be held at the family home in Cookstown.

Six Questioned Following Road Crash
Six men have been arrested and are being questioned by gardaí following a three-car collision. The incident happened at around 6.40pm on Tuesday, in Termonfeckin, Co Louth. A man and woman sustained injuries, not believed to be life-threatening in the accident, and were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for treatment.

Man Dies In Road Crash In Co Sligo
A man has been killed in a road accident in County Sligo. The victims' 4x4 vehicle veered off the road at Corballa and hit an embankment in the early hours of this morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Sligo General Hospital. Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
