Deployment Of Troops Delayed

The United Nations have asked Ireland to delay deployment of Defence Forces troops into Syria.

The troops had been due to leave for the country today, however, it is believed that a last minute intervention by the UN in New York has resulted in the delay.

According to the Irish Times, a source has said that the delay could be two to two and a half weeks and it is understood that such last minute delays are not unusual.

According to reports, it is thought that the delay could be caused by permits needed for the troops to cross the border from Lebanon into Syria have not yet been fully processed.
