HMV Opens First Store In Nine Months

Today sees the re-opening of music retailer HMV after it entered receivership and closed its doors nine months ago.

All 16 of the company's branches across Ireland closed in January.

Told sees the opening of a new flagship store on Henry Street in Dublin.

This will be followed on September 12 by stores opening in Dublin's Liffey Valley and in Limerick and Dundrum.

Staff In Sit-In At Closed Limerick Store
Thirty former employees of Limerick independent food store Ivans of Caherdavin are holding a sit-in. The store announced its closure earlier this week. The staff are occupying the store in a dispute over pay cheques and redundancy packages.

TD Follows 'European Colleagues' To Olympic Opening Ceremony
The Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, has said he shall be attending the controversial Olympic opening ceremony. Defending his decision to attend the opening of the Beijing Olympics, Martin Cullen said all the other European leaders were attending, and he would follow suit.

Blaze Destroys Hardware Store In Dublin
Fire fighters have been tackling a major fire at a hardware store in Dublin overnight. Eight units of the fire brigade are at Kingston's Hardware Store on Strand Street in Skerries, where the fire started at approximately 3am on Friday morning.
