Three Arrested After Body Is Discovered On Beach

Two women and one man has been arrested by Gardai investigating the murder of 44-year-old Audrius Butkus whose body was discovered on a beach at Mornington, Co Meath.

A woman aged in her 30s was arrested on Thursday evening in the Drogheda area. Two further arrests were made on Friday morning when Gardai arrested a male (50s) and a female (60s) also in the Drogheda area.

All three are currently detained at Drogheda Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Man Arrested In Connection With Drogheda Beach Body
Gardaí in Drogheda have arrested a man in connection with the death of Audrius Butkus, whose body was found on Mornington beach in Co Meath three weeks ago. According to gardaí, they arrested a man aged in his 50s in the Drogheda area. Mr Butkus, 44, was originally from Lithuania, but had been living in Ireland for four years.

Two people have been arrested and a firearm has been seized following a Gardai operation targeting dissident republican activity in the Drogheda area. On 11 July, Garda stopped and searched a car at around 3pm in the Crushrod Avenue area.

Four Charged In Connection With Post Office Robbery
Four people have appeared in court charged in connection with a post office robbery in Clogherhead, Co Louth. Three men, one armed with a firearm, entered a post office and threatened staff on 03 May. The suspects fled the scene with a large amount of cash.

Body Discovered On Mornington Beach
Gardai from Laytown are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of a male in his 40s found on Mornington Beach, Co Meath. The Office of the State pathologist has been notified. The body is still at the scene. The area has been sealed off for a Technical examination. The body was discovered at approx 9.

INMO Members Hold Further Protests
Nurses and midwives, members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), SIPTU and the PNA, are to hold further lunchtime protests. The action is being taken today (2 March) in a number of locations. It is in response to a proposed 50% increase in the annual retention fee being sought by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
