Referendum Voter Register Deadline Day
Today, Tuesday 17th September, is the deadline for anyone who wishes to vote in the two upcoming referendums but is not yet registered .
The referendums on the abolition of the Seanad and the establishment of a Court of Appeal will take place on October 04.
All Irish citizens over 18 are entitled to vote in referendums providing they are included on the register of electors.
Application forms for the register can be obtained from city or county councils or downloaded from www.checktheregister.ie.

Ombudsman's Concern At Limited Children's Referendum
The Ombudsman for Children has said she is opposed to holding a limited referendum dealing only with child protection, which may run on the same day as the Lisbon Treaty referendum. Emily Logan said she did not support the calls to hold two separate referendums on children's rights and child protection.

Carlow and Kilkenny T.D., Ann Phelan, outlined that the decision to hold the Children's Referendum on a Saturday means that the maximum number of citizens can vote. She said: "The decision by the Minister for Children to hold the Referendum on Saturday 10th, is a welcome one. It will facilitate students and those who work mid-week.

Minister Welcomes Fall In Live Register Figures
The latest Live Register figures, released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), show that the standard unemployment rate in Ireland is now 10%. This represents a fall in the number of people on the Live Register of 1.8% on the previous month, and continues a trend of a reduction in the levels of people signing on.
