INFANT Research Centre To Be Established In Cork
A perinatal research centre is to be established in Cork, one of seven world class research centres being founded by Science Foundation Ireland.
Studying the causes of pre-term births, the €13.6 million Irish Centre for Fetal and Noenatal Translational Research (INFANT) will aim to improve treatment and care for pregnant mothers and newborn babies.
The centre, based at Cork University Hospital, will be funded by both public and private money, with €7.6 million coming from public funding and €6 million from 15 industry partners.

SIPTU Announce Work Stoppage At Cork Research Centre
SIPTU members at Ireland's largest research centre are to stage two one-day work shortages in a dispute over pay. The action follows a one day stoppage last month at the Tyndall National Institute in Cork. The union has warned that further action will be taken if the pay dispute between its 70 members and their colleagues in UCC is not resolved.

€13.5m Funding Into Health Research
€13.5m is to go towards funding for new health research projects announced today by Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar. A total of 36 projects are being supported by the Health Research Board (HRB) over the next three to five years, including research into cancer, asthma, kidney injuries and antibiotics.

Cork researchers have revealed they have created a vaccine that could be used to protect against prostate cancer. The Cork Cancer Research Centre at University College Cork published their findings today in the Genetic Vaccines and Therapy journal, saying they have identified DNA vaccines that are able to target and destroy cancer cells.
