Investigation Launched Into Limerick Hospital Fire

An investigation has been launched into a fire at University Hospital Limerick over the weekend.

A number of patients were evacuated from the hospital when the fire was spotted at around 18:45 on Saturday evening.

It is understood that the fire began in a plant room, which is on the roof of one of the hospitals laboratories.

Patients, including 14 children, were moved due to a large amount of smoke coming into the hospital, but with the fire under control, staff opened doors and windows and used fans to clear the smoke.

A technical team is due to examine the plant room to determine the cause of the fire.
