Speeding Clampdown Initiative To Use Plainclothes Garda
As part of a new initiative to tackle dangerous driving in Dublin, plainclothes garda officers will be used to identify speeding motorists and drivers jumping red lights.
Under the October/November Casualty Reduction Implementation Plan for Dublin, 10 key locations across Dublin will be the focus of the plainclothes gardaí.
Alongside busy junctions, sites have been chosen where drivers have been caught driving 30kmh over the speed limit.
The announcement of the clampdown follows figures released yesterday that show 143 people have been killed on the road already this year - an increase of 16 for the same period last year.
In Dublin, 15 people have been killed on the roads, up seven on the year before.
