Gardaí Issue Warning Over Stolen Radioactive Materials

Gardaí have issued a warning to the public after the theft of radioactive materials in a weekend robbery in Swords.

Seven lightning preventers in a red metal box were taken during a robbery, but gardaí have said that the items are highly dangerous and while they resemble aluminium or stainless, they in fact have no scrap value.

Anyone who identifies the items, should contact authorities immediately and should not approach or touch them under any circumstances.

If anyone thinks they have seen these items, they are encouraged to contact Gardai at Swords on 01 666 4700 or the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland on 01 206 6913/ 01 269 7766.

Police Hold Man Over Station Break-In
Gardaí in Dublin have arrested a man in his 30s in connection with an embarrassing break in this week - at garda offices on Harcourt Street. Several personal items, including garda uniforms, were stolen during the robbery early on Tuesday morning. Attempts were also made to start a small fire in the building.

Cyclist Killed In Motorway Crash
A cyclist has been killed after being struck by a car on the M1 motorway. The incident happened at around 5pm on Sunday, between junctions three and four of the M1, near Swords, Co Dublin. It is understood the victim, a man aged 50, was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The coroner has been notified.
