HSE Question Legitimacy Of Thousands Of GP Fee Claims

The Health Service Executive has questioned the legitimacy of thousands of claims made by GPs over out-of-hours care and special services for medical card patients.

According to a report by RTÉ, the HSE is querying the "accuracy and reasonableness" of a significant number of claims going back several years.

One GP is understood to have been offered a final payment of €15,000 over his claim of €186,000 in back fees, according to RTÉ.

The HSE recently agreed a process with the Irish Medical Organisation for dealing with medical fee claims dating between 2011 to August this year.

Under the agreement, GPs can accept an offer made by the HSE, or they have until October to lodge an appeal.
