Storms Bring Down Power Lines Across The Midlands
Storm warnings have been issued for most of the country after hundreds of households were left without power in east Galway, south Roscommon and west Offaly .
Severe storms uprooted trees and brought down power lines, with some reports alleging small tornadoes were observed in parts of Offaly.
Forecaster Met Eireann warned this morning that "outbreaks of persistent heavy rain" were expected, particularly in the midlands.
Motorists have also been warned to be prepared for bad road conditions.

Thousands of people have been left without power to their homes and businesses following story weather across Ireland overnight. ESB has said its crews have been working to restore power to its customers, but as many as 3,000 still remained without electricity this afternoon.

Almost 3,000 Homes Without Power Following Storms And High Winds
Almost 3,000 homes in counties Donegal, Dublin and Meath are without power due to the high winds and storms on Wednesday night. ESB crews are currently working to restore the power. Nearly 2,500 customers in Donegal were left without power, however some have now been restored. Supply has been restored to 800 homes in Ballybofey.

Storms Disrupt Power Supplies
Ireland has been badly hit by bad weather which has left thousands of homes without electricity this morning following high winds across the country overnight. The majority of the damaged power lines are in Donegal, Sligo and Mayo, where gusts of 135km/h were recorded at the height of the storm.

News that the government has reversed its decision to sell ESB power stations in the Midlands has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil. In October last year the government announced plans to seel two peat-burning power stations in the Midlands despite a previous commitment that it would not.
