Arrest Made After Burglars Threaten To Shot Woman And Baby

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a burglary in Balbriggan, during which a woman was threaten with a firearm while holding her baby.

According to gardaí four masked men smashed their way into the home of businessman Lee Tierney.

Mr Tierney was tied up and threats were made against his wife, Sarah, and ten-month-old baby Emily, who had a shotgun pointed at them.

The men stole a "significant" amount of money and black BMW car.

The investigation continues.

Man And Woman Arrested In Connection With Child's Death Last Year
Two people have been arrested in connection with the death of a 10-week-old baby girl in Co Longford in June last year. The child, named as Doriana Kluska, from Cloondara in Longford, died in Temple Street Hospital on 04 June 2017. A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested in Naas. At the same time a woman, aged in her 20s, was arrested in Dublin.

'Significant Quantities' Of Human Remains Uncovered In Tuam
"Significant quantities" of human remains have been discovered in a large underground structure at the former mother-and-baby home in Tuam, Co Galway. Surveys of the site were carried out the Mother And Baby Homes Commission of Investigation in October 2015, identifying two underground anomalies worthy of further investigation.

Missing Mother And Daughter Found 'Safe And Well'
A mother missing with her one-week-old baby daughter has been found "safe and well", garda have reported. Garda had issued appeals for help in tracing 23-year-old Paige Holland and her daughter, Nevaeh Goodier/Tighe, after they had been reported missing from their home in Co Tipperary.

Body Of Baby Found In Bin
The body of a newborn baby has been found in a bin in Co Cork. The discovery was made at a property in the city on Thursday after the baby's mother presented herself to gardaí, it has been reported. The body was taken to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out.

TUI Says Thousands More Secondary School Teachers Will Be Needed
The Teachers' Union of Ireland (TUI) has said that 4,500 more secondary school teachers will be needed by 2026 to meet growing classroom numbers. The union said that figures published on the website of the Department of Education & Skills suggest there will 86,000 more students by 2026.
