Man Abducted In Co Cavan Found 'Safe And Well'

A man who was abducted in Co Cavan yesterday afternoon (8 October) has been found "safe and well".

It is understood just before 10am today, gardaí received a phone call informing them that 31-year-old Richard O'Donovan was safe.

The father-of-three is said to be receiving treatment in hospital in Cavan and gardaí are waiting to interview him about the attack.

Mr O'Donovan, who is originally from Navan and lives in Virginia, was attacked on Tuesday before being bundled into a car.

It is understood he was driving a blue-grey 2003 Monaghan-registered BMW 3 series car in the Swiftbrook Estate, when around 3.30pm yesterday, a silver BMW X5 crashed into it. A number of men then got out of the X5 and attacked Mr O'Donovan. They put him into the X5 and drove away.

Detectives believe the abduction was planned as the attack was carried out with little concern about potential witnesses to the incident.

An incident room has been set up in Bailieborough Garda Station and gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them on 042 9694570.
