Man Attacked By Four Men In Attempted Robbery

A man in his 60s is in hospital after being assaulted by four masked men following an attempted burglary in Dublin.

The incident happened at a house on Fortfield Road, Terenure, at 9.30pm last night (Thursday).

The man was confronted by the gang when he answered a knock at the door. It is understood his son was also in the house at the time.

The men are alleged to have assaulted the father and demanded cash.

However, they fled the property when the man's wife returned to the house.

The victim was taken to St James' Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Gardaí intercepted a red van near the scene and a man, believed to be in his 30s, was arrested.

He is being held at Terenure Garda station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

The scene has been cordoned off for forensics and Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Fortfield Road, Lavarna Road or Kimmage Cross Road areas of Dublin 6 between 9pm and 10pm last night to come forward.

They are also looking for anyone who saw a red transit type van in the area, to contact Terenure Garda Station on 01 666 6400.
