Gardaí Appeal Over Swords Assault
Gardaí in Dublin have issued an appeal to anyone who witnessed an assault on Main Street, Swords yesterday (10 October) afternoon.
The victim, a man in his 40s and originally from Nigeria, is in a critical condition at Beaumont Hospital after he was attacked with a baseball bat around 12.20pm.
A second man, believed to be in his 30s and also from Nigeria, was arrested at the scene and is currently being questioned at Coolock Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
At a media briefing, Superintendent Ronan Galligan said he believes there is a lot of mobile phone footage of the attack.
Supt Galligan said: "I believe there were approximately 30 or 40 people around at the time with mobile phones on them and we see from stuff that is captured on social media.
"I would have a concern that if people actually have footage of that, that it wouldn't end up on social media, that they would come to the guards here first. It is an absolutely vital part of our investigation."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Swords Garda Station on 01-6664700 or Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111.
