Ivor Callely Bogus Expenses Trial Set For March

The trial of former Fianna Fáil Minister of State Ivor Callely will be held next March and is expected to last around two weeks.

54-year-old Callely, of Clontarf, Dublin, is charged with six counts of making bogus mobile phone expenses claims.

The charges relate to six counts of using six invoices from three phone companies as false instruments at Leinster House for receipt of expenses for handsets and equipment, under the Oireachtas members direct purchase mobile phone scheme in 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Judge Mary Ellen Ring, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, set a trial date for 24 March 2014.

Mr Callely, who remained at the back of the court during the short hearing, is also bailed to appear for a pre-trial hearing on 14 February.
