Government To Pay For Pyrite Repairs
A €10m fund has been established to repair homes damaged by pyrite, the government has announced.
Announcing the funding, Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan described pyrite as "another building scar from the Celtic Tiger era".
However, the government has decided not to pursue its plans to impose levies on quarry owners or the insurance industry.
It has been estimated that up to 1,000 homes are in need of immediate repair, which the government will now foot the bill to carry out.
