IMO Recommend Acceptance Of LRC Deal On Working Hours

The Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) has recommended acceptance of a new deal proposed by the Labour Relations Commission (LRC), which aims to settle the ongoing dispute of hospital doctors working hours.

Following extensive talks between the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the IMO, the LRC made their recommendations to the groups yesterday. The IMO have come out in favour of those recommendations.

The dispute surrounds the working hours of non-consultant hospital doctors, with the HSE calling for a commitment to an EU directive on doctors working hours.

Under the new deal, hospitals that fail to comply with the working hours directive would face financial penalties ranging from €225,000 for small hospitals, €350,000 for medium-sized hospitals and up to €650,000 for large hospitals.

Doctors have yet to vote on acceptance of the proposed deal.
