Search Resumes On Mweelrea Mountain

A search has resumed on Mweelrea Mountain, Co Mayo, for a missing hillwalker.

The walker, a male understood to be aged in his 30s, has not been seen since Tuesday night. The man's wife reported him missing.

A search was launched on Wednesday involving the Coast Guard and Mayo Mountain Rescue but was ended when at nightfall.

Colm Byrne from Mayo Mountain Rescue team told RTÉ's Morning Ireland that the man is understood to an experienced hillwalker, adding that while the walk can be difficult and strenuous, it "shouldn’t present any difficulties unless you get lost or have a mishap."

The search is ongoing.
