Taoiseach Announces 218 Jobs
Taoiseach Enda Kenny has announced 218 jobs are to be created by entrepreneurial start-ups over the next 12 months.
The start-ups are backed by the Dublin Business Innovation Centre (BIC).
The news was made at a function in the capital to mark Dublin BIC's 25th anniversary.
In a statement, the Taoiseach said the new jobs will be created across a range of some 30 entrepreneurial company's including Davra Networks, EmpowerTheUser, iCabbi, Learnosity, MMSOFT Design, OpenJaw Technologies, Point of Care, Stratus5 and SafeFood 360.
The Taoiseach said: "Ireland is one of the most exciting places in the world today to create the businesses of tomorrow and the work of the Dublin Business Innovation Centre has been vital in building this reputation.
"Job creation is the Government's top priority and I'm delighted that 218 new jobs are being created by Dublin BIC firms. Small firms are vital to job creation and the Government's Action Plan for Jobs aims to create a more supportive environment for entrepreneurs and small businesses to flourish."
According to a DKM Economic Consultants study, 93% of entrepreneurial start-ups backed by Dublin BIC expect to increase employment over the next 12 months. The report added that in 2012, start-ups backed by Dublin BIC employed 2,428 people directly and were responsible for another 2,032 indirect jobs.
Annette Hughes, director, DKM Economic Consultants, added that 82% of Dublin BIC supported start-ups survived the critical first five years, compared to an average of 61% for all Irish start-up companies over the same initial timeframe.

Three hundred new jobs are to be created in south Dublin by Sage, Europe's second largest technology firm. Welcoming the news, Fine Gael TD for Dublin Rathdown, Olivia Mitchell, said: "By choosing to locate in Sandyford, Sage, Europe's second largest technology company, will join some of the premier tech companies.

Galway Firm To Create 100 New Jobs
A shed manufacturing company is to create 100 new jobs in Tuam, Co Galway. Steeltech Sheds is to relocate its business from Headford Road in Galway to the former Coca-Cola factory in Tuam and will recruit new staff between now and 2017. The company currently employs 100 staff at bases in Cork, Dublin, Carlow and Athlone.

Govt Launches Dublin Action Plan For Jobs
The government has launched the Dublin Action Plan for Jobs, which aims to deliver 10-15% employment growth in the capital. The Dublin Plan is the last of eight regional plans to have been published as part of a new €250 million jobs strategy led by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD.
