FSA And IMB Issue Withdrawal Notice For Weight Loss Supplement
Retailers are being asked to withdraw four types of weight loss and muscle building supplements.
The Food Safety Authority and the Irish Medicines Board have issued the joint call saying that the supplements "pose a serious health risk".
The products include OxyELITE Pro Super Thermo capsules; OxyELITE Pro Ultra-Intense Thermo capsules; OxyELITE Pro Super Thermo powder and VERSA-1.
It is understood that the products have been associated with severe liver disorders, including hepatitis, with one case of liver failure reported in Ireland.
People who have bought the supplements have been advised not to take them.

The Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe, has been urged to intervene to prevent the introduction of VAT of 23% on many food supplements on 01 March 2019 Making the call, Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Finance Michael McGrath, said: "The application of VAT to food supplements was discussed at length during the passage of the Finance Bill last year.

FF: Plans To Hike Up VAT On Food Supplements Should Be Halted
A Fianna Fáil TD has called for a halt in plans to increase the VAT on food supplements to 23%, pending a review by the Tax Strategy Group. Deputy Michael McGrath, the party's spokesperson for finance, said he has raised the issue twice already as the government plans to implement the tax, which currently stands at 0%.

Pro-life campaigners have protested outside the Dáil over "media bias" in the abortion debate. Reports suggest that around 1,500 people joined the '33 to 1: Challenging Media Bias' protest. Organisers claim that both broadcast and print media has shown bias in the ongoing debate.
