Former Cork Lord Mayor Denies Sexual Assault Charges
A former Lord Mayor of Cork has denied six charges of sexual assault of a teenage girl between March 1996 and October 1998.
83-year-old John Murray is standing trial charged with six counts of sexually assaulting the girl at four locations in the city over a two-year period.
Mr Murray, a retired taxi driver from Gregg Road in Cork city, was a Labour City Councillor on Cork Corporation for 14 years from 1985.
In 1993, he was elected Lord Mayor but failed to hold onto his seat in the 1999 local elections.
The woman told Cork Circuit Criminal Court that the alleged abuse started when she was a young teenager on a date unknown between March and April 1996.
Mr Murray has denied all six charges.
The trial is ongoing.

Man Arrested Over The Murder Of Mikolaj Wilk
A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Mikolaj Wilk in County Cork last June. The suspect, aged in his 30s, has been detained at Togher Garda Station. 35-year-old Mr Wilk, who was originally from Poland, died when he was attacked by a gang at his home in Ballingcollig.
