Almost 100 Jobs To Be Cut At Mater Private Healthcare
Almost 100 jobs are to be cut at the Mater Private Healthcare as part of ongoing cost-saving measures.
The hospitals staff of 980 is to be reduced by about 10%, with management saying that approximately 95 redundancies.
A statement from the hospital read: "Market conditions for the private health sector have presented the Mater Private Healthcare Group with a number of challenges in recent years. There has been a significant reduction in the number of people with health insurance."
It is understood that the recent announcement of a reduction in tax relief for those with private health insurance has affected the private hospital, who warned that the move "may cause further erosion".

No Medical Coverage For Quarter Of Irish Adults
More than 25% of Irish adults do not have a medical card, or private health insurance, the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office have revealed. According to the CSO, only 44% of those who responded to the latest Quarterly National Household Survey, said that they had private insurance, while 24% said they had a medical card.

Up to 150 doctor, nurse and medical staff jobs are to be created at the Mater Private Hospital in Cork over the next two years. The jobs will be created as part of a €70m expansion. It is understood the hospital hopes to recruit health professionals that are currently working overseas.
