Largest ESB Union To Serve Strike Notice On 29 November

Notice of industrial action is to be served on ESB on 29 November by one of the largest unions representing workers.

In a dispute over a €1.6 billion pension deficit, a group representing the workers combined unions announced their intention to issue strike notice last week.

However, the group cannot issue the actual strike notice, with each individual union legally required to serve notice to the company dorectly.

The Energy Services Union, representing around 1,200 administrative staff, held a meeting of its National executive Committee on Saturday and authorised the serving of notice of "industrial/strike action" on Friday to expire on Monday 16 December at 8am.

The other ESB unions - SIPTU, Unite, the TEEU and UCATT are expected to serve strike notice with the ESU on Friday.
