Three Arrested Over Illegal Deer Poaching

Three men have been arrested by gardaí investigating the poaching of up to 200 deer.

Gardaí officers and the National Parks Wildlife Service launched Operation Bambi to target a gang operating without a licence in counties Wicklow, Carlow and Kilkenny.

It is understood that one suspect in the investigation had boasted on Facebook of shooting 15 deer in one night, and that gardai would not catch him.

On Monday three men in their 20s were arrested, two in Carlow town and one in Rathvilly, Co Carlow.

They were questioned about suspected reckless discharge of a firearm and also about alleged offences under the Wildlife Act and released last night.

The investigation is ongoing.

Three Arrested In Animal Cruelty Investigation
Three people have been arrested as part of an investigation into animal cruelty and neglect at a farm in Co Carlow. Garda launched an investigation in April this year, removing 351 dogs and 11 horses from a farm during an 11 day joint operation involving An Garda Síochána, Carlow County Council and the ISPCA.

Woman Released In Longford Murder Investigation
The woman being held by Gardaí in connection with the death of Sharon Coughlan, has been released without charge. Gardaí in Co Longford arrested three people yesterday. Two men, aged 19 and 28, were still in custody this morning. It is understood their period of detention has been extended.

Three Arrested After Co Carlow Car Chase
Gardaí have arrested three men in Co Carlow following a chase when the car failed to stop at a checkpoint. It is understood that the incident happened just after midnight on the N80 in Clonegal. Garda gave chase as the car made off towards Carlow town. In the town, the car rammed a garda patrol car injuring three officers.

'Lower Than Normal' Temperatures Could See Snowfall Today - Met Éireann
Parts of Munster and Leinster could see snowfall today, Met Éireann has warned. The forecaster has said that rain is expected to turn to sleet and snow as temperatures fall to "lower than normal". A status yellow warning for rainfall has also been issued for counties Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wicklow, Offaly and Tipperary.

Yellow Weather Warning Issued For Heavy Rain
A yellow weather warning for rain has been put in place across many counties in Ireland. The warning came into effect at 11pm on Sunday night, 13 October, and is in place until 11.59pm on Monday, 14 October. The warning is for Munster, Connacht, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Wexford, Offaly and Westmeath.
