IFESA Issues Warning Ahead Of Waterford Station Closures
Fire stations in Waterford are to close temporarily due to “lack of cover for staff attending mandatory training”, the Irish Fire and Emergency Services Association (IFESA) has said.
The IFESA have warned of a "potentially dangerous situation" as staff at the fire stations are told to expect a 72 hour shut down.
It is claimed that both the stations do not have enough staff to cover both mandatory training and annual or sick leave.
Raising concerns over a "worrying and dangerous situation", IFESA National Chairperson John Kidd, told the Irish Independent that the problem had arisen due to a lack of recruitment into the fire service.
