Govt Set To Introduce Pay-Per-Weight Rubbish Collection
The government is set to introduce a pay-per-weight scheme for rubbish collection, in an effort to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill.
Environment Minister Phil Hogan is expected to announce the new system today. It is understood that this is being done in an effort to encourage people to separate paper, plastic and food from their general household waste.
According to a report by the Irish Independent, the minister is also considering the introduction of a national register, which would track if waste is being properly disposed of. Part of this scheme could see fines being issued to people who refuse to register.
