MSD Announce Closure Of Second Irish Plant

Some 570 people are to be left jobless following the announcement of the closure of the MSD plant in Swords, north Dublin.

It marks the second MSD plant to close in Ireland this year. The drug manufacturer is understood to be moving its operations to the Netherlands, Belgium and the US.

130 staff will be made redundant within six months, with the remaining jobs being phased out over the next three years.

The news comes on the same day, that up to 350 jobs are also at risk at fashion retailer A-Wear, which has now entered receivership.

Dublin Water Restrictions To Continue Until 4 Nov
Water restrictions imposed in Dublin last night are expected to continue until Monday 4 November. The restrictions, which cause low pressure and loss of supply, will be in place each evening from 8pm until 7am. Up To 70 Jobs To Be Lost With Drogheda Plant Closure
Up to 70 jobs are to be lost with the closure of Rexxam, a Drogheda-based manufacturing company. SIPTU has confirmed that the Japanese-owned company, which has had its Drogheda site for 25 years, will close by the end of the year. According to SIPTU, the company claim that the closure has been caused by the loss of 80% of its customers.

Tipperary Radiator Plant To Close
The Merriott Radiator plant in Clonmel, Co Tipperary, is to close with the loss of 90 jobs, it has been announced. The news comes as a further blow to the manufacturing industry following several plant closure announcements this week.

Bausch + Lomb Announce New Investment In Waterford Plant
Fifty new jobs are expected to be created as part of a major investment plan at Bausch + Lomb. One of the largest private sector employers in the southeast, Bausch + Lomb announced pay cuts and redundancies earlier this year.
