FF Welcomes Colm Keaveney

Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin TD has welcomed Colm Keaveney TD to the Fianna Fáil Parliamentary Party following Deputy Keaveney's successful application to party Chief Whip Seán Ó Fearghaíl.

Deputy Martin commented: "All across the country, we are receiving applications to join the party from people who want to contribute to the renewal of politics and make a positive difference in their communities.

"I am particularly pleased to welcome Colm to the organisation as part of that process. He is someone who is deeply motivated by the impact politics can have on individuals and communities and wants to be part of an organisation that is committed to a fairer way to recovery.

"In my conversations with him, I have been struck by Colm's commitment to fairness and his determination to make his time in politics count. I am pleased that he has recognised Fianna Fáil as a driver for positive change and look forward to his contribution to our Parliamentary Party.

"I would also encourage people in every constituency, including those who are disillusioned by the broken promises of the Government parties, to come forward and be part of Fianna Fáil's work."

Deputy Keaveney commented: "The reasons for my decision to leave the Labour Party and resign as its Chairman were well documented. Since that time, I have reflected carefully on my role and how I might best advance the issues and priorities I campaigned on in 2011 and which have driven me since I first entered politics.

"It has become increasingly clear to me that the only organisation in Irish politics that seems genuinely interested in learning from the lessons of the past and putting fairness at the heart of policy making is Fianna Fáil under the leadership of Micheál Martin."
