Extra Staff Allocated To The 'Garda Vetting' Section

The recent allocation of extra staff to the 'Garda Vetting' section has been welcomed by Deputy Gerald Nash.

Mr Nash said: "Garda Vetting is essential for those working with children or vulnerable adults, such as elderly residents of nursing homes. However it is important that it is conducted as swiftly as possible both from the point of view of the affected organisations, and also for those who may be waiting on clearance to start work.

"I was concerned that the procedure had become log-jammed and was effectively impeding employment opportunities. It is an issue that has been raised with me regularly by constituents who are waiting to start jobs and are afraid that they will lose the position due to vetting delays.

"A total of 41 extra staff were redeployed to the section in the last year. The Minister has confirmed to me that they are all now fully trained, and we will start seeing the impact in terms of turnover of applications soon."
